Request an estimateWhat does it take to add a sunroom in La Palma?
A sunroom addition in La Palma is an enclosed room off your house with windows or screens for walls. When it's fully enclosed, it can be heated and cooled, so you use it like any other room in the house.
Most people who call us have a patio, deck or older sunroom they don't get much use out of, and they want a room they can sit in for more of the year. The price mostly turns on the size of the room, whether it needs a new base or can use the one that's there, the glass and insulation, and whether you'll heat and cool it. The schedule turns on the city's plan review and inspections, and on whether the base needs work before we can build on it. When I come out, I look at what the room will tie into and write up the room type, the options and the price for your job.
How we build a sunroom addition
The first thing I ask is how you'll use the room, because the biggest choice is whether you want a room you'll heat and cool or one you'll use without either. We settle the insulation and glass at the same time, before anything gets built, so the room you end up with matches the way you live in it. Then I look closely at what the room will sit on and tie into, and if you want to build on an old patio, I check it carefully first, since a worn base can let water in later. Once the plans are approved, our own crew builds the room, ties it into the house and cleans up when we're done.
A room you heat and cool is one of our four season sunrooms, and it works like another room of the house. A room without either is one of our three season sunrooms, which suits light and shade on mild days. If you can see yourself out there in the heat of summer or on cold evenings, I'd lean toward four season, because a room you can't stand to sit in half the year isn't worth building. Otherwise three season is a sound choice, and the call is yours.
Building a sunroom addition in La Palma
Almost every improvement plan in La Palma goes through plan check at the city's Building and Safety office before a permit is issued, and Bureau Veritas North America runs that office for the city, so that's the name you'll see on the review. Plan check starts with three sets of plans and a fee, and some plans also need Fire or Health review. The city's Planning Division handles residential remodels and design review, and whether your sunroom goes through it as well is something we find out once your plans are in front of the city. Either way, we prepare the plans, file them with the city and book the inspections. State energy standards for windows, doors and the walls and roof depend on which climate zone a house sits in, so we choose a heated room's glass and insulation with those standards in mind.
We're based in La Palma and work in many of the cities around it, on both the Orange County and Los Angeles County sides. A lot of the homes we see here already have a patio cover over a slab, so we look at whether that cover can become part of the room or whether the room needs its own roof, and the same question comes up on jobs in Cypress and Buena Park.
Why call us for a sunroom
The owner measures and runs it
I come out myself to look at the job and measure, and I'm on site running the work with our own crew. I learned this trade young on sunroom and patio cover crews and started this business in La Palma in 2023, so you deal with the same person from the first visit to the last.
Licensed and fully insured
The state licensing board says any work that needs a permit of any kind requires a license, even when the job is under $1,000. We're licensed and fully insured, and I'm glad to go over both when I come out.
Inspections planned around La Palma's days
La Palma runs building inspections Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, with none on Fridays, and some inspections need the owner there. We book ours around those days and tell you ahead of any visit where you need to be home.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a sunroom addition cost in Orange County?
A sunroom in Orange County usually costs about $120 to $170 per square foot, going by area cost guides, so that's the local market and not our price. Larger rooms that need a foundation and have heating and air conditioning land toward the top of that range. Your estimate gives you the figure for your own room.
What is the difference between a four season and a three season sunroom?
A four season room is fully enclosed, heated and cooled, with all-weather windows, while a three season room has no heating or cooling and uses uninsulated windows or screens. The first works like part of the house, and the second is for the milder part of the year. I'll lay out both for your space when I come out.
What is the best way to plan insulation and windows for a sunroom?
Decide on them before building starts, because cost guides note they're much easier to put in while the room is built and adding them later can often cost more. Highly insulated windows and insulation in the walls, floor and roof are what make a sunroom energy efficient. That's why we go over both with you up front.
How do I know if my old patio slab can hold a sunroom?
Have it checked before you plan the room, because one sunroom maker's installation guide prefers a new slab or deck and says an existing one needs to be in like-new condition. That guide calls a base with numerous buckles or cracks unsuitable, since it could lead to leaks later. When I look at your patio, I'll tell you straight whether I'd build on it or start fresh.
What license does a sunroom contractor need in California?
The state's B General Building license covers any structure built to shelter or enclose people or property that takes at least two unrelated building trades. A sunroom addition usually brings in several trades, so ask what license a contractor holds before you sign.
What should a sunroom contract include in California?
California's licensing board says a home improvement contract needs written direction on who will get the necessary permits, and it must give a completion date. Read for both before you sign. On our jobs, we're the ones who take care of the permit.
